Elle va être entretenue et bichonnée pendant de longues années par une seule et même famille. Après 40 ans de sommeil, elle va revivre et va être entièrement restaurée en 2003 avec l'aide d'un ouvrier de chez Terrot. Les segments, les roulements, les joints, tout est changé après un démontage pièce par pièce. Début 2004, elle est remontée et le premier coup de kick fait revivre son bruit caractéristique de moteur deux temps. Côté caractéristiques : Monocylindre à deux temps ; Alésage de 51 mm ; Course de 60 mm ; Cylindrée de 125 cc montée en 150 cc ; Vitesse maxi de 80 km/h ; Consommation : 2,5 litres aux 50 km. Dernière info : une P 55 coûtait en 1948 67 250 francs soit 2050 €             avec un même             pouvoir d'achat (source insee). Maintenant, pour parler boulot et heures passées sur la peinture, il a fallu 25 heures de travail. Chiffon, bougie de rechange... On peut tout cacher et garder à portée de main dans cette petite boîte qui se ferme avec une vis. Génialement géniale... Et le chiffon, quand on doit titiller le titillateur, on en a bien besoin si l'on ne veut pas avoir les doigts qui sentent le SP98 + 3% d'huile ! On la met, on l'enlève, on la garde, on la regarde. La tan-sat est signé en bon caoutchouc Dunlop. La monoplace est en cuir de belle facture. Attention, pas de suspension arrière, donc la selle principale est sur ressort. Qu'on se le dise : quatre vitesse, côté droit, tout en bas. Et oui, on oublie le sélecteur à gauche mais on garde la poignée de débrayage à gauche. On ferme les yeux et on s'entraîne. Pied droit : sélecteur ; Pied gauche : frein ; Main gauche : débrayage ; Main droite : accélérateur. Et la tête alors ? Démarrage à froid : simple. Ouverture du circuit carburant, titillateur titillé, trois ou quatre coups de kick et... normalement cela part. Le plus problématique, je ne vous le cache pas, est le démarrage à... chaud. Capricieuse la belle grand-mère ! Maintenant, vous la laissez au garage 4 mois et elle redevient docile en quelques coups de kick. Un premier temps en course descendante avec explosion, échappement et transfert, un deuxième temps en course ascendante avec admission et compression. En résumé, il y a une explosion par tour. Elle n' a jamais quitté "sa famille" depuis sa date d'acquisition sauf en 2008, où je l'ai acquise. Elle a donc appartenu au grand-père, puis père du dernier propriétaire. L'ancien propriétaire m'a même envoyé un article paru dans la presse locale avec des photos de son grand-père puis de son père dessus ! Autant dire que cette moto a été "relativement" bichonnée au fil des ans et des décennies avant de connaitre une entière restauration en 2006. Cette moto a été achetée à distance (www.anciennes.net) sans même avoir été testée ou même vue. Echanges de mails, de photos, coups de téléphone... tout c'est fait à distance, entre Dijon et La Rochelle, nouvelle demeure de la P 56. Une information et une bonne : côté transport je suis passé par Moto by Cat, pour Cat Group (www.motobycat.com). Ils ont pris en charge la moto là-bas puis me l'ont livrée au pied de ma porte. Correctement sanglée, parfaitement calée, le précédent propriétaire avait assisté à son embarquement, j'ai assisté à son débarquement. Le chauffeur (un motard !) était aux petits oignons avec la moto. Photo souvenir, longue discussion... En résumé, si vous cherchez un transporteur, ils sont carrés. Un village du côté de Dijon/La Rochelle pour 200 € avec assurances comprises, qui dit mieux ? Peugeot produit des motos populaires deux temps de 125 cm3, dont la diffusion sera très importante. La P 55 sort en 1946, la P 56 sort au catalogue en 1949. Toutes les deux sont des 125 cm3 monocylindres, la P 55 étant la reprise d’un modèle d’avant guerre. Un triporteur en est dérivé, le « tri » Peugeot, icône des fifties dont la publicité affirme, non sans raison, qu’il est le moins cher des véhicules utilitaires.
